About
Kartta Group, in collaboration with MAPBHC, offers a 2,000-hour doctoral internship program (known as the Northern Minnesota Private Practice Consortium, or NMPPC) for students completing their doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, Forensic Psychology, and related programs. The psychologists within the NMPPC commit to offering doctoral training in adherence with the aspirational and ethical standards set forth by the American Psychological Association (APA), and in compliance with the Code of Conduct established by the Minnesota Board of Psychology.
Kartta Group and MAPBHC work in collaboration with each other through shared leadership and resources. The providers at MAPBHC and Kartta Group share an office space and administrative team, which makes for an ideal, supportive environment for training in both therapy and assessment. Specifically, interns receive a breadth of training opportunities that are difficult to attain in a rural setting, and ensure exposure to a range of theoretical orientations and interventions. The consortium Training Committee members provide services and supervision for both sites.
The NMPPC psychology doctoral internship consortium offers structured training experiences across three rotations that run concurrently. The aim of this internship is to prepare psychology doctorate students to effectively balance the demands of private practice, focusing on a blend of forensic and clinical populations and referral sources, to include developing competence in navigating the ethical, legal, and practical intricacies differentiating between these populations.
Interns will provide direct services, including individual therapy and psychological assessment; engage in research; receive supervision and didactic training; and act as part of a multidisciplinary team of mental health professionals in treatment planning and applying mental health interventions. Interns are expected to be part of a client’s treatment team and are treated as part of the greater team of mental health practitioners at both MAPBHC and Kartta Group.
